I agree that the characters in The Host & Twilight have obvious similarities, but I deffffinitely don't think that Ian and Edward are alike in any way. Ian's character is closer to Jacob's.

Jared is Edward, minus the vampire part. Seriously. Jared even says a line that is almost exactly what Bella thinks at the end of New Moon. Something along the lines of "Edward loves me, blah blah, he's mine, I'm his forever." And then Jared's being angry at someone, I think Ian, and says something like "Melanie is always mine, and I'll always be hers." (While I read that I was like, 'wow steph. that was terribly obvious. that you took one of your own lines and rewrote it.') Edward has such awful mood swings, and he's kind of crazy and overprotective and just like BLAAH all the time. (In a fabulously sexy way, of course!) And Jared's really impulsive and he flips out at the drop of a hat. Like Edward.

And then Ian and Jake are just kinda laid-back, chill, but when it comes to something they care about, they're VERY passionate.

I just want to know how you see Edward in Ian. Like, Ian's amazing and Edward's amazing, but that's the only character similarity that I can see.

Edward and Jared's mannerisms seem a lot more... the same.

Ian's so much kinder then Jared, just like Jake is kinder, at face value, then Edward. Edward can be really harsh, but Jake usually isn't. Jared is really harsh, and Ian usually isn't.

So, yeah, can I get some examples? Cause I just don't see it.

Ian is perfect in his own way. Not to the extent of Edward

Ian and Edward both mold to each girl's fantasy of perfection. I think Edward and Ian are the same in the sense that they are martyrs when it comes to love.

In Eclipse, during the snow storm, it almost killed Edward to see Jacob hugging Bella. But she needed it. So he just stood by. In the Host, Jared understood that Wanda was still in Melanie's body, and Melanie and Jared are together. So he understood that while in Melanie's body, Wanda needed Jared's comforting touch too.

Despite the obvious qualities of SM's men, I don't think Ian and Jared can be compare to Edward and Jacob.

The problem between Ed and Jake in Twilight is just because of their "mythologic" belonging that are incompatible.

In The Host, issues aren't (and can be) like Twilight.

I don't have the words to explain that so : Ian is Ian, Jared's Jared, Ed's Ed and Jake is Jake. That's all to me.

I think I like your idea best. Arguments aren't nice when you can just fix everything with that. =D They are all each their own person. Yay!

haha. edward because we all know why ... and ian because he is the best human guy i have heard of! and then comes jared and jacob at the end. i don't hate jacob like i used to but for some reason i can't find a way to love him. i can only feel sorry for him. but yeah. ian. sigh... the best human around..

I think that he is better for Wanda than Jared is, because Ian is a lot more understanding. He's really compassionate just like the souls. And he's really protective of Wanda. Very Edward Cullenish!

And personally I think that Ian resembles Edward more because he's more understanding and protective then Jared is. Plus I think that they both resemble him in a way though, but Jared is more like Edward in his memories. Because I don't think that Edward would hate the souls so much, if it were him and not Jared. He probably would have showed more compassion to Wanda when he first met her. But at the same time neither of them are like Edward at times, because they say certain things that Edward wouldn't say, and they act more like Jacob would. So I think that both of the characters have some of Edward in them, and some of Jacob.
