Less forum topics (Re-arranging)

Postby Johanna on Wed Aug 13, 2008 4:15 pm

(It's maybe to late and to much work to do it now, but)

If it's to much work I could do it. I have my own forum and know exactly how you do it and don't lose any posts.
I think there's a little to much forum topics. (The topics on the home page. Like "Casting Calls, Twilight mom news)
The rule of thumb that I've heard is try to have as few as possible and make similar topics under one. If there is less than 20 tread/topics on the topic try to merge them with a similar topic. I personally just thinks it's a lot easier and professional that way.

Proposal:
Instead of the topic "Breaking Dawn Discussions" have a common topic called something along the lines of "Twilight Teens leadership" or "Twilight teens General" where topics like
-"Everyone needs to make an introduction post"
- "The rules"
- "Who are your Moderators/adminstrators"
- "Questions for Mods/adminst"
- "Though about being a Moderator?"
(Or even making a Topic for all the Moderator Topics)
- "Updates"
- "Contests**"
- "How did you discover TwilightTEENS"

Info like "TwilightTeen of the Month should be posted under a topic like it's own tread.

The Books and Characters topics are done perfectly, even right sized descriptions (Not to long) You could evn add a little quote form etch book if you guys wanted to. Like make a poll with some suggestions for what the quote should be under twilight, and then a poll for new moon and so on. Could be fun:)

The Movie:
I think "General movie Discussion", "Twilight Tuesdays" and "Twilight movie" could be put together.
Special Events were done perfectly too.

Do we really need book of the month? It doesn't seem so popular. Maybe it could be put together with an off topic thing?
I thing the MIscellaneous should be put all the way on the bottom of the page. It makes it easier to find.

Fanfiction Put together Twilight/new Moon/ eclipse.. and " Miscellaneous.." together. as well as fanfiction help.

Creative Twilighters "Graphic designs," "Favorite Twilight Pictures", "Graphic contest" "twilight creations" all put togehter.

That's it. I'm not trying to be man at ALL! I just think it would make the site look better if there were less forum topics on the home page. But you don't have to do it of-course, I'll still be around.
Just consider it pleas. :D

I see where you're going with this. One of the big problems is that we can't make sub-boards. I've thought about it, too, but here's why we have what we have.

**For your Twilightteens General, we already have that. It's the first section you come upon.

**Books and Characters: Seeing as you're a new member and may not have seen the mess before Breaking Dawn, our Books and Characters area was atrocious. The mods assigned there were working their butts off to keep up with it. It still takes a lot of work to make it run smoothly, so the ideas you have may be put on the back-burner until we can do this thing with our eyes closed. Moderating the discussion of upwards of 8,000 members is very difficult. But, they are very good ideas. I really like them.

**Movie: Here's where combining gets a bit difficult. General Movie Discussion is a place for things pertaining to trailers, move stills, etc., etc., etc. Twilight Tuesdays is a seperate thing run by MTV.com. We just post the current week's MTV bit that they do. Twilight Movie is where people talk about the actual filming, like what people did on this day, set pictures, etc.

**Book of the Month was something that we do in correlation to the Twilightmoms. They do a book one month, and then we do it the next. On-topic, it's something we do for fun. Most people may not necessarily do it, and since July was our second month, and with Breaking Dawn having been coming up, people's attention was diverted elsewhere.

**FanFiction: *sighs tiredly at thought of amount of work* I'm over there. Miscellaneous was created so that people with other FanFics, other than Twilight could post them there, but, obviously, most people around here write Twilight FanFics. It would be a little crazy to put them together. But I see what you're getting at.

**Creative Twilighters: I'm over there, too. Don't get me wrong, I see what you're doing, but again, like the Movie area, they're all separated for a reason. Graphic Designs is for things that YOU created that you would like to share. Favorite Twilight Pictures is for things that SOMEONE ELSE created that you found that you want to share. Graphic Contest is just that: Request a graphic area. And Twilight creations is for fan clothes, accesories, and websites that you found or created.

I get a little overwhelmed, too, trying to scroll all the way down to the bottom, but everything is separate because it has to be. I honestly think having sub-boards (boards within boards) would make it easier on everyone, but FreeForums.org can't handle it. I see where you're coming at, but until we've got things under control, this is how it is.

Thanks for the suggestion!!

Yeah i agree aswell.
Some topics i'm not able to find until i scroll really slow. i like what your thinking johanna. but as chelsea said it depends on their space i'm guessing? since the host can't take so much in one area?

Yea, it stinks. Most other hosts have sub boards. We don't have that here.
