Other Book Suggestions!

Postby JaspersGirl on Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:08 am

Does anyone have suggestions for other books to read while we wait for Breaking Dawn? (besides re-reading the series ;) ) I love to read and everytime I go into a bookstore, I cant seem to find a book that looks like it will keep my attention like Twilight.

-I read The Other Boylen Girl before the movie came out and it was really interesting, better than the movie in my opinion. (I wouldn't suggest it for younger people though)

I love the Other Boleyn Girl! Philippa Gregory writes really well.

Any particular genre you prefer? or would any be good? (:

you know if you want compare vampires (even though none will be as good as the Cullens) try Blue Bloods by De La Cruz. Other than that I don't know what you like to read about other wise I would probaly have more books for you.

The Fountainhead is a good book. It's mostly about a Frank Lloyd Wright-esque architect named Howard Roark (I love him so! hence the avie). Someone on here said they had a major in architecture, I think; they'd probably enjoy it. But it's a good book for anyone, whether you're into architecture or not.

Sense and Sensibility is wonderful. Everyone always reads Pride and Prejudice, but S&S is better, in my opinion. I had a hard time putting it down.

Oh! There's an adult novel called Me & Mr. Darcy, which is about a woman who goes on an Austen tour with a bunch of old ladies and she meets none other than Mr. Darcy. It's cute, but it's pretty much just a modern take on P&P.

Do I need to suggest Harry Potter, or has everyone read those books already? :)

Molly! I love Ayn Rand :D Atlas Shrugged is really good too!

Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk is really good! (He was the author of Fight Club) but you might not enjoy it if you aren't into his kind of dark humor.

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is really good! I keep recommending it to everybody here. LOL.

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. It isn't that historically accurate, but it basically got the gist of the Tudors. It's very entertaining!

Veronika Decides to Die, Eleven Minutes, and the Devil & Miss Prym are my favorite books by Paulo Coelho. It questions people's motives and morality. Very enlightening!

I love all of Austen's works... Emma was my latest and I enjoyed it.

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides is also very good. Juxtaposing the most common and the most gothic, the humorous and the tragic. It is the portrait of youth and lost innocence. Superbly written.

I LOVE all of Philippa Gregory's tudor novels (The Other Boleyn Girl, the Queens Fool, The Boleyn Inheritence).
The Historian is another vampire book that's pretty decent.
Sara Gruen's (I think that's how you spell it) novels are good. "Riding Lessons" and the sequal "Flying Changes". She wrote the book Water for Elephants, but I haven't read that one yet.

Um....yeah I just went to the bookstore and bought Eclipse today for my sister. Does anyone else have that problem where everytime they are around SM's books they end up purchasing one? Because I do. It's bad.

Hahaha :) Already read them!

I like any genre though. I can read books like Harry Potter and Twilight, then go to books like The Other Boleyn Girl, and then switch to books by Nicholas Sparks.

Anything that can grab me at the first few pages and hold me through out the book is good to go :)

My fav non-Twilight book is hands down My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. It was the first book that ever made me cry. It's kind of a medical drama/romance. What I love about it is that she switches perspective from all the characters in the whole family throughout the book and you never hear from the girl who is the center of the conflict until the final chapter. It's such a good book!

Nicholas Sparks = love. Last summer I took out my college library's entire stock of Nicholas Sparks books and it was amazing. (Not only are they all really good, but now they remind me of summer.) He came to my bookstore at home in CT and my mom got me a signed copy of The Choice for Christmas. A Walk To Remember, The Notebook, The Rescue....The Guardian was also one of my favorites by him.

I see Essa recommended the time travelers wife...and I agree. It was good, I believe there is a movie coming out.

Also, my favorite books...after twilight of course, are the great and terrible beauty, rebels angels and a sweet far thing - its a series. They are amazing. The last book just came out a few months ago and I've never cried so much while reading a book.

Ooooh!! I've read ALL his books!! I LOVE THEM!! My favorites were the "True Believer" and "At First Sight" they go together...but "At First Sight" made me cry SOOOO hard at the end. His new one, "The Choice" is really good too...also kinda sad. Then of course there's "A Walk To Remember" which was the first of his books I ever read...the movie doesnt really do the book justice, although I love the movie. AND even his memoir with his brother "Three Weeks With My Brother" was really good!! I was surprised...I thought it would be really boring, but I loved it!! Don't forget "THe Guardian" I was amazed when I read that one..cause its unlike any of the others he's written...I would definately recommend them all though, even the ones I didnt mention, cause he's just an amazing writer!!
