lol aww i'm sorry. here's my full report on everything that happened.. it was a crazy day!!
My friends and I got to Centennial High School at about 12:50 p.m. The doors were scheduled to open at 1:00 p.m. and the event started at 2:00 p.m. We drove up and on the North side of the school there were no cars. We started freaking out because we thought we were at the wrong place. It turned out that we just hadn't gotten to the crowd yet. The line started at the door and curved around three times before it came to us. Workers were going around with sticky notes writing the name you wanted The Host personalized for on them and turning the book to the correct page. Outside there was a table that you came to where you showed your ticket, your copy of The Host, and you could submit questions. We decided to enter the question "Are any of the characters in The Host based on people from your life?" We figured after all of the questions that ours wouldn't get picked, but we wanted the shot.
We finally get inside the building and noticed they were selling copies of all four books. We already had ours, but thought it was a good idea. Because we were in the first group we were able to sit in the auditorium, otherwise we would have had to sit in the Cafeteria where you had to watch on the screen. We got into the auditorium, where on stage there was a podium, a table, and a chair. We assumed Stephenie would be sitting at the table, considering it was the only thing on stage. We went and sat down anxiously, and as we were walking people called out to us and kept asking my friends and I if they could take pictures of our shirts. They say "Real Men Sparkle". A lexiconer sitting behind us took pictures of them and should be sending them. At one point while waiting a girl stood up and said "I have an announcement, Who thinks Daniel sucks and Edward rules? And who thinks Jacob is better than Edward?" There was lots of screaming.
Finally Stephenie comes on stage after a long introduction and there was lots of screaming by all of the girls. Stephenie said thank you for coming and she said how she was excited to be in Dallas, where she had never been before and was sad that she was here for a short time, but all the while grateful. She started in on her pre-submitted questions because she said that she knew people didn't want to be here until 9 tonight and she also said "I know you guys might, but I have to catch a flight." (these are paraphrased and are what I can remember from a very long day)
Do you ever get the Characters from Twilight and The Host confused?
~She basically said that it takes a little bit to switch gears, about two days from working on Twilight to get into gears fro The Host. She said that each character has their own unique voice in her head and that she could never get Bella confused with Wanderer because they have two different voices.
Are any of the characters in The Host based on people from your life? (This was our question!!!)
~She said that usually she doesn't base characters off of people she knows, but in The Host's case she let some of it slip in. She said that Doc is based off of a lot of things that are like her little brother Seth (the webmaster of her website). She said they have somewhat of the same personality and Seth is currently studying to become and eye doctor, so it kind of worked out. She said that "when you read about Doc, think of Seth the webmaster."
Are you going to write books other than The Twilight Series and The Host?
~She said that she would like to write a little bit of everything. She said that on her computer database she has stories started that are about a ghost, one about mermaids, and she has one that is about normal people, but it's a mystery. She said not to expect only vampires and aliens from her.
Some people want to know if these books are okay to let their 11 year old read.
~She said that all of her children have heard the books. She said that her 5 and 7 year old usually fell asleep during them but her 11 year old has heard them all. She said that they were written for all ages. She also said that she started reading Breaking Dawn to him, but stopped because she didn't want "some cute little 11 year old girl to come up to him and be like could you please tell me what happens? And he would rat me out."
What do you think about the movie?
~She said that she thought the movie was coming along great. From what she has seen she was very pleased. She said that after two days on the set and sitting all day watching clips she probably will have only seen 15 minutes of the movie, but it was wonderful. She liked how they didn't get big named actors to do the film so there would be more draw, but instead she liked how they got really good actors. She said that it wasn't going to be exactly like the book because it was a visual version, but she said it was still Bella and Edward and if they got that right, that was all that mattered.
She was also asked questions about writing in general and she said to not think about who you are publishing it for or just publishing in general while you are writing, but just to write it and then worry about that later. She also talked about that if you are an author you have to love writing the books. You can't like being an author, because all the things that come after writing the books are not the fun part. It's the actual writing of them.
After the question portion which lasted about 30 minutes, the first row was sent up on stage to get their books signed. We were row F, so we had a little time to wait. Once we got down to where the orchestra pit was we had to stop taking pictures so I only got a few closer pictures of her. Once we got up on stage we were very excited. My friends Tina had a picture of Robert Pattinson in her book that she moved to the page where Stephenie was signing it. Kimmy was first in line and she had her Jasper Band shirt on. Stephenie asked her what Jasper's Band was and Kimmy explained to her it was Jasper High School and it was our marching band. (We've decided that our schools name is going to be changed now though to Jasper's High School). Next was me. She commented on our shirts and said that she really liked them. When Tina was up Stephenie saw the picture of Rob and loved it. She said that he was very beautiful and she stroked the picture. Tina was ecstatic.
We left the school at around 4:45 p.m. and there were still people from the Cafeteria moving into the auditorium. We had one of the best days of our lives which we will never forget. Everyone I saw coming out of the auditorium had smiles on their faces.
I still can't believe she answered our question!!
