I came up with this when me and my friend, who's birthday is in September, were planning out our futures. Now, take in account that I didn't fail, or skip, any grades. Neither did I start later, or earlier.
My birthday is in March, and I'm going into grade 9 in September. I'm 14.
Next year, going into grade 10, I'll be 15. Going into grade 11, I'll be 16.
Being older then my friend, I'll be 16 going into grade 11. That means my friend will be
just turning 16 in grade 11.
It doesn't say anywhere that Bella failed, actually, it says she was in advanced placement.
Did SMeyer make a mistake, or am I missing something?

maybe she started when she was 4...?

I don't know if it's different for you, but for me, we start school when we're 4, too.
And America has the same years as Canada, so really, unless she failed/started late, SMeyer made a mistake.

hmm...we only start at 4 if we were born in the first half of the year...Bella is born in September..
over here she would start when she was 5...maybe America is the same cause most of our year 11's are 17 ... hope I helped.. and I just realised the whole starting at 4 thing wouldn't make sense..cause it would make her younger.. hehe sorry.. but hopefully I've helped?..

or in simpler words..cause I'm dead tired and I have no idea if what I've written up there makes any sense...I think she probably started at 5...

My birthday is also in September, and I won't turn seventeen until the very beginning of 12th grade. I'm also in advanced placement. Sadly, this makes me the youngest person in almost every class.

My birthday is September 14th, and because of my birthday i had to start late. your birthday had to be after my birthday to register for school. My friend's birthday is three days before mine, and it also depends on the school district. Because I lived in a different school district, she was able to register for school a year before i was, when she was 4. I'm an advavced student, and i couldn't get into Kindergarten until i was four, but about two weeks later I turned five, so for almos the whole year i was 5. when i get into highschool, i'll be fourteen for 2-3 weeks, and then i'll turn fifteen. Same when i'm going to be in 11th grade. I'll be seventeen for most of the year. I get the same questions all the time. "Were you held back?" "Aren't you an advanced student?" and all that jazz. It's a pain but, i'm the same as Bella, (danger magnet and age-to-grade ratio wise.) Hope that helped.
