I remeber Edward telling Bella it wasn't a big deal because he gave Esme and Alice one too... so maybe he was trying to hide the truth, that it really is a diamond?

well he couldn't tell her the whole truth because then she would never accept it, and Edward really wanted her to have it. and by saying he gave it to Esme and Alice, he is just playing it down so she wont make a big deal about it.

yeah i think it was real diamond!
edward seems to have the best things &
always gives bella very nice presents.
also, since bella doesnt like getting presents from him, the one chance he has to give her something hes going to want it to be nice ! (:

Yes, it's definetely a diamond.
Which is perfect, because Edward can only be represented with a REAL diamond.
And it is funny how Bella doesn't know. At least not really, anyway. She does have problems with expensive gifts after all...
But hey, he didn't buy it, so where's the harm???

I know I wouldn't mind an Edward Diamond dangling from my wrist :D

Yea, i'm pretty sure it was a diamond. Since he didn't know if Bella would take the engagment ring i guess he just wanted a diamond on her.

It seemed most obviously implied in the text. Why else would Alice say what she did just to have Edward immediately cut her off? Especially since the small little exchange was never definitively answered. Of course it was a diamond. =P
