Ehm... anybody love languages here?

Postby Angelic Nymph on Sun Aug 17, 2008 5:16 pm

 ...My greatest passion is learning new languages. I am just too curious about other people's cultures and when I go abroad I simply can't stand being misunderstood or misunderstang the others because of the language. So... I am working on learning as much as I can! My favourite one is English (I have an obsessive - compulsive disorder with everything that's Shakespeare, English songs, poets, books, newspapers and everything you can find in English) and you can't imagine how happy I am now, writing this post to you all (boys and girls from all around the world!!!!), it's just a-m-a-z-i-n-g! It's so wonderful to share this twilight experience with you, it makes me feel sooooo good.
So thank you everyone for talking with me and being in this forum, I am truly honoured to have you as friends!
...Is there anyone out there who loves languages as much as I do?

I speak:

French
English
German
Spanish (a bit)
And then at school we study Greek and Latin but of course you can't count them, they're no help anymore :D But still very intersting, especially greek...

yeah, that's unfair, at school they don't give languages the right importance they deserve...all those math hours... what a waste of time!!!!! :D
The best way now to learn languages is going abroad, preferably for a very long time (try to tell mum!)
You would be a perfect interpreter, knowing all those languages and speaking them fluently, especially lebanese! They'd take you right away!

PS: I love your avatar! I have a similar image on my msn! starbucks 4ever! ...we don't have any starbucks in Italy and that's something that [/u]really sucks (another reason to move to the US or the UK :P )

yes its very true..they don't give the importance it deserves..and I hate math..ugh!..but I'm considering being a interpreter..they make good money..and your doing something you love..my cousin is graduating with two degrees this year for interpreting..so that's good.
and thanks about the avatar!..i love starbucks!!..my favorite drink is double chocolate frapucinno yuuuuum..but it sucks that though that italy does not have starbucks in italy..although italy is like the heaven.

There aren't so many schools either. There's one very famous in Italy but it's so difficult to pass the enter test (you gotta make translations from english, french and german to italian without using any vocabulary... you already need to be an interpreter to do so!)
I think it's a wonderful job: you get to travel around the world, meet new people, new places and speak different languages... it's just perfect.
We'll meet at the United Nations one day!!!

PS: Frappuccino yum!!!

I wish I could speak other languages, but sadly, even though I've taken a fair crack at Japanese, French and Italian, nothing has stuck with me!

Although I'm good at English......... :P
I get fabulous marks in classroom English :D

I LOVE learning new languages, but unfortunately for us poor students stuck in the educational reform in my province, a whole lot of effort is being taken out of the languages department and a whole lot more emphasis is being placed on sciences and math--both of which I despise. It's so FRUSTRATING! I speak only three languages (English, French, and Spanish), but I understand most Latin-based languages, like Italian and Portugese. It doesn't help, though, that my school only offers Spanish as an option. My brother's school offers Italian, German, Latin, and Greek. I'm so jealous. I wish I could learn to speak Ukrainian (because my father's Ukrainian, but rarely speaks it), Chinese, Swahili (maybe... because that would just be so cool), Portuguese (my mom's Portuguese), and maybe some Native American, if I can find somewhere to learn it. Here's to wishing

wow, lots of you knows a lot of languages.
I know English of course, Dutch <-- language of the country where I live (Netherlands) and Chinese ((only listen and speak, I'm currently learning to write it, it NOT easy :O ))--> Cantonese (both of my parents are Chinese) and I'm still learning French at school, though it's really going like nowhere, because I really find it difficult with all those different times and such +_+
I've also learnt lil bit German, but that's like not easy for me, though it's lil bit similar to Dutch. So I can understand a little bit as long as I don't need to speak it XD
And I also know a little bit Japanese, just because I've watched loads of anime XD
When you can have like everything, but you have to sacrifice something precious, what or who will it be??
