iammyownhappiness wrote:Ok guys, I just finished The Host and I'm not sure what I feel about the ending :O It was a GREAT book through and through but am I the only one kind of disappointed about Wanda's fate and her new body? I don't know... I liked Wanda and Melanie as one but at the same time I don't? I got so used to imagining Wanda and Mel in ONE body but at the same time I know if they stayed together... it wouldn't work out for anybody (Ian and Jared).

Maybe I thought transferring her to another body was too...easy? I was emotionally conflicted while I was reading the whole novel... and was wondering, "How will they solve this problem???" I guess when the transferring body part came up... I was disappointed by how easy it was. Actually...It's not the ending itself that was disappointing... I just feel like someone died when Wanda and Mel separated :(

Also, Wanda doesn't seem very happy in her new body (besides the being with Ian part). It doesn't fit her to be so weak... Melanie's body fit her-- at least to me =X Don't get me wrong, Mel is great too and it wouldn't be the same without her.

Another thing... what about the whole Wanda still being in love with Jared? @_@ And Melanie sometimes touching Ian and then pulling away quickly? I guess we'll find out in the sequels... and don't hate me for crossing my fingers, hoping that Wanda and Melanie will be one again xD I'm just weird like that.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm feeling anxious and confused about how to feel ^^;;;;;

Amazing book, I loved it :3
I finished it yesterday... (darn you school! Slowing down my reading process *shakes fist*)

I really miss Wanda being in Melanie's body, I had a hard time dealing with her change of host. *shrug*

And surprisingly, my favorite pairing is Kyle and Sunny.
I think they are so cute together. X3

And I was very sad when there were no more words on the pages of the book.. It was an amazing story that I will never get tired of. :3

*raises hand* I want a sequel! :D

wow....... just got done reading the Host. Stephenie is an impressive writer, i havent come across anything like her style. i love it. makes you feel like your one with the character... or even in his/her/its place. amazing.

at first i thought it was going to be an "Invasion of the Body Snatcher" type of thing.. if not familiar with that maybe you've seen Nichole Kidmans "The Invasion" which is a remake. but the "aliens" in that movie are crude cruel and do not care about human life. Souls are different.. they want to rid the universe of hate war famine bla bla bla. Kinda like our universal hippie aliens Razz

i dont know that i pity the humans. because the souls were doing what they were placed in the universe for. so i cant hate them. Wanderer/Wanda was definitely my favorite character, she was the most caring/loving/respectful fictional character i have ever read about and it makes me wonder what kind of person Stephenie really is at heart. She has to reflect all the good qualities of all our favorite characters.

and Jeb... OME I looooved Jeb he was great. I'm trying to picture who he would be if they made this into a movie lol. I cant yet...

and I cant choose a "Team Ian" or "Team Jared" because they are in love w/ 2 different "girls". So theres not really a team to pick Sad. But I didnt really like Jared... the physical abuse to Melanies body was a BIG no no... I didnt think he could hit her, even if she wasnt "Melanie" anymore.... but after awhile, I began to sympathize for him... So i dont hate him... Ian. omg. Thats all i have to say. oh. my. god. What a hunk of sweet caring burning HOT SEXY MAN! lol!!! but thats not why i like him... ok maybe it is LOL!!

over all..... this was one of the best books i have ever read. it was soo different, i loved every aspect of this book and hope there will be a sequel and if not.. oh well, i am VERY satisfied with this one! lol Props Stephenie Meyer! Another masterpiece well done!!

(ok i'm done i promise.... )

Yes! I thought of that too!
I just finished it this evening (put off all homework and just finished it!) and when there were the blank pages I was really confused, but then with my experiences with New Moon I realised it symbolised the passing of time.

But I was really confused about Pet - is Pet a young human? Had she always been a soul since she was small?

I'M SO CONFUSED!

But I love Ian :)
I think he's lovely :)

WOW

Postby rockroller on Thu May 15, 2008 11:01 pm

i was so surprised when i read it! i thought it wouldn't compare to twilight at all...but WOW! i loved it so much!! it only took three days to read, i couldn't put it down!
i loved how she made the story in the POV of the "soull" Wendy/Wanderer (whichever...) instead of the point of view as the human Mel. that was a great idea i have never read a book like this before! and when Wanda was narrating Mel would put in her own point XD. and i loved most of the characters in this one. Unlike Twilight i didn't choose if i liked Jared or Ian best i love them both! XD unlike twilight...(Edward all the way) The story kind of makes you think about what it is to BE human, ya know?? well i hope lots of ppl love it as much as Twilight, bacause then they might make a movie too heh that would be so awesome

That is totally the same with me! Unlike twilight I cant pick between Jared and Ian because they both are great guys, especially with the way I pictured them. Hotties! lol, anyways with Jared and the hitting issue, I think it was wrong, but I can also understand why he was so angry, I mean he thought that the love of his life was taken away from him and that he was never going to get her back. He saw Wanda as a stranger, and as a evil person for taking Mel away from him.

Also it is kind of hard to choose because they are both in love with 2 separate people, It is not like with twilight where it is just one girl who has to choose one guy, they both were able to go with the one they loved.

I feel so conflicted with Wanderers new body, I wanted her to stay with Mel's body, but at the same time I dont want them sharing. I wanted her to be with Ian and Jared, I couldnt make up my mind at first, but then I leaned towards Ian. I cant wait for the rest of the story, *here's to hoping*

now that I really think about it, I really dont mind her leaving Mel's body, what bugged me was Wanderers new body, I dont know it seems weird to me that someone so strong as Wanderer now has to live with a body that is very weak, I hope Steph surprises us with that in the sequels

I was really surprised when i read the host at how good it was...well i wasnt but i suppose i was surprised that i could love a book as much as i love twilight.

I loved Ian and how he could overlook the fact that Wanda had 'stolen' Mel's body and he understood that Wanda was her own 'person' and that she had feelings and other things like that.

I never really liked Jared because i always knew that if the time came he would choose Mel over Wanda and that upset me.

And Jeb rocked XD if he hadnt always been kind to Wanda especially when they first found her she wouldnt have survived and no one would have been able to learn how nice Wanda really is.

All in all I think that The Host was pretty much Amazing. Stephenie Meyer is defintely *The Best* writer ever!

Just finally finished the host...And I thought it was awesome. :D

Its one of those books that just kind of makes you think a lot about things...
I loved the depth to it. But, I personally would be happy either way if it were kept a stand-alone novel. If Stephenie thinks of a way she wants to continue the story, I'm all for it, but it was meant to be a stand-alone, and if thats all it turns out to be, I'm fine with that too. Its a wonderful book.

I'm a bit bummed that Wanderer ended up in such a weak body... Even though I knew she couldn't stay in Mel's body forever, I would have thought that Steph would have come up with a physically stronger body for her!

I hope there's a sequel... The Host looks so lonely on my bookshelf right now, especially because I've lent my Twilight books out to my friend!
