The Host Chat (With Spoilers - THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING!!!)

Postby eka on Fri May 09, 2008 3:16 am

This is the second, and *FINAL*, warning to everyone that this topic was created so that people who have read the Host can talk about all events in it from beginning to the end. There will be spoilers, so please do not continue on if you do not want some of the biggest parts of the book given away!

(And yes, I do realise the Title says you only had one warning, but better to be safe then sorry. ;) )

With permission from JaevenStar, I have made this topic for everyone who has read The Host to talk about it, thoroughly. :)

Yes, that means you will not have to worry about ruining the book for anyone because this is clearly labelled as a topic with spoilers. I've been craving a conversation with other people who have read it because nobody around here has even bought it!

I want to know what you thought about it, about particular characters, particular scenes - anything.

Let's talk about The Host.

At last! Start.

I love the book, AMAZING!
I love the setting, I wish it could be done as a movie.
I love Ian & Wanda. They are one cool pair.
I don't like Jared in the middle part.
Melanie is strong.
Wanda is very inspiring.

I must agree, this book is absolutely amazing.

I didn't expect Kyle to change so much towards the end of the book!

And Mel, god I love her Bite-back humour. :)

Yah, agreed.

Kyle is a bit annoying. . At least, he changed in the end. .

I suppose so, did you think the ending was predictable?
I mean after Wanda "died", I knew they'd bring her back.

Though I'm not too sure about this new body... "Pet" seems like a complete ditz (x

Oh but I did like how they met that other group and they also had a Soul on their sides... Burns I think his name was?

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS BOOOKK!!!!!!!

AAH! i just finished. i read all through last night and this morning and didnt write my shakespeare paper....blah. shakespeare is nothing compared to the awesomness of the HOST!

i loved it. i got so super confused at the end when Wanderer woke up inside Pet. i read the page like 8 times.

Wanda and Ian made me tingle with amazing happiness. all the time. still tingling actually. and i love wanda's new body, how its a slight little freckly girl who looks as pure as wanda acts.

so wonderful!

Jared was really reminding me of Jake for a while...he was a total pooface and only cared about melanie...i loved melanie though.

i have major diahrrea(sp?) of the mind right now, im so overwhelmed. we get a sequel, dont we!?!?!?!

The Seeker( Wanda's Seeker) always gave me this visualization of that costume lady from the Incredibles. hehe.

whenever Jared and Melanie were getting some action, or when something suspenseful was happening, i was so sucked into the book! my heart rate was all over the place while reading this. i really really liked all the internal struggle that went on in here...its so different from twilight!

ah. class now. but wow that book was amazing!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but can anybody tell me how old Wanda's new body was? From the descriptions it sounded like she was only young but Wanda said she was 18. I'm so confused.

I believe she's 17, but looks younger. Wanda lies about her age so Ian doesn't think it's wrong to be w/ her. I just finished it after a 4 and a half hour marathon reading. The Host is amazing! I nearly cried when Wanda gave up Mel's body. So sad... Ian and Wanda are so perfect as a couple! I was expecting Ian to fall in love w/ her-I could tell he was crushing for her. I was surprised that Kyle changed to rapidly in the end-talk about a change of heart. The Host is totally great! I can't stop smiling :D

Thanks for that. I read The Host non stop for a day and a half, it was such a great book. I too cried at the end when I thought Wanda had died to give Mel her body back. Ian and Wanda were such a beautiful couple.

When she first obtains the body, she is 16 (turning 17 in two weeks). The reason why she said she was 18 is because remember earlier in the book (in one of Mel's memories) when Mel and Jared were in a hut and Mel wanted to... take their relationship to the next level?

I can't quote it exactly, but Jared says something along the lines of "You're 17... I'm 26". Meaning (in the US) that it was illegal for those two to do anything seeing as the legal age is 18.

Therefore, Wanda knew Ian would have the same morals as Jared and didn't want to have to wait another year until they could *wink wink nudge nudge* so to speak.

I hope this is making sense... If not, I'll be happy to try and explain it better. :D

Wow!! I loved the book! I think that she told everyone she was 18 because it was a closer age to Ian???? I don't think that they really cared about laws at the time, but who knows???
The part that really bugs me about Wanda's new body is that it isn't that strong. At one point in the book, I thought she'd come back as Wes (don't laugh!!!) because she had said something to Ian like, "you wouldn't feel that was about me if I had Wes' body" (I can't really quote it off the top of my head). That would make an interesting fan-fic though!!

Leaves Above I really enjoy that theory hahahaha. That would make a fantastic fan-fic I agree :D

But yes, I also was annoyed by the fact that Wanda can hardly do anything now... I mean I know Jamie said that the body he chose was because it was her but Wanda is so strong, it must be frustrating for her to be in such a vulnerable body...

ahhh I just finished it today and LOVED IT.
Way different from Twilight in ways but still amazing.
Stephenie Meyer is pure genius.
I love Ian and Wanda and jamie is high up there
on my list of favorite characters.
If there is a sequel, I have a feeling its going to be
mainly about all the different human groups teaming
together to see if they can even out more of the population.

I finished this book saturday and it was amazing
Ian is by far my favorite because he just understood wanda so much
I was suprized by how much a lot of people changed in this book
kyle being okay with sunny was ironic. :)
Im really glad wanda got her own body!
STEPHENIE MEYER IS BRILLIANT! :)
