I think there isn't a big difference between Harry Potter and Twilight.
It are both fantasy books, that aren't really about fantasy :P
In Twilight, it's all about the love, and the fact that Edward is a vampire is just a little problem why they can't love each other.
In Harry Potter it's all about the fact that Voldie wants to kill Harry, and the fact that they can do magic just makes it a little bit more complicated :P
I like them both, but I think I like Twilight a bit more.
I spend a lot of time on a HP RPG, but that's just because I have friends there, and not because it's about HP.

I still tbink there's a big difference, Twilight is aimed at young people, teens and adults.

Harry Potter is more child orientated, the feelings are different. It's a lot different

I think, Harry Potter ardesses a bigger audience. Basically all kids from 5-13 maybe, more or less. It's definitely got the bigger fanbase, people that grew up readin HP still like it.
Now Twilight adresses a smaller audiance, basically all the girls in the middle of puperty. But since they just get much more obsessed with the whole thing, you could call it a draw.

I know a lot of adult who read Harry Potter, but when you look at TwilightMoms...
I don't know.
Maybe Harry Potter is also cool for really young people, but I can't image that a 9-year-old understands the whole love-thing in Twilight.

Aw, too hard! I grew up with Harry, I couldn't just sell him out for Twilight!

Also, they're so different. And I get equally obssessive over both of them. I'd say I was as ridiculously excited for Deathly Hallows as I am Breaking Dawn.

They both stole my soul equally. Quite rude of them really...

And i've also heard it said around the other way. That Twilight is aimed at Teens and Harry Potter for all ages. It's confusing.

I think that Harry Potter is also an adults book BUT it's dampened down for children's sake, JK always said that she couldn't kill off Harry when small children read the books.
With twilight it's a lot more... grown up so to speak, it's more about learning and physcial relationships as well as stron emotional bonds and confliction. It's things we can go throuhg everyday with bfs, gfs, friends and family. Even though the vampire part isnt there.
Harry Potter is more fantastical because we can't go and fight wizards and witches and wave wands.

Ok.. i'll shut up now.

But yeah, i understand what you mean. And i agree with it completely 100%.

I'm just gonna say that both books can be read by whoever the hell they want to be read by. :P Haha.

I LOVE Twilight, but I think Harry Potter is a lot better. I think that my favorite literary theme is good vs. evil. Although there is some of that in Twilight, it focuses more on "I'm so in love with you". At its core, Twilight is a romance and Harry Potter focuses on things that are bigger than that. Don't shoot me, because Twilight is great! If it was, I wouldn't be on TwilightTeens, but Harry Potter is better in my book. That's my very long two cents.

I wouldn't let my 5 year old child read either. They're both too mature.

I dunno, once HP hit book 4 it was MUCH LESS kid-oriented. I mean, there's death. That's big. And it's a character you're supposed to not hate, at the very least. It's a character that a lot of younger girls (i.e. ages 8-14) may have a crush on. (Maybe older people too, idk.)

And then book five, it's like Harry's mourning/grieving/being really annoying period. Book six, ALBUS DUMBLEDORE DIES. Huge character, huge influence, enormous plot problem (in the sense of, 'what the crap are they gonna do now?' sort of problem). Book 7 - death everywhere, characters we love dearly, (Hedwig, Fred, Snape, Mad-Eye, Remus) die left and right!

But children's book thing aside, I could never choose. Harry Potter was my childhood, and now Twilight is my teen years. Honestly, I'm more excited to just find out my 20-29 obsession... Haha. Harry Potter made me want to read, and Twilight made me want to make out with Edward. So, yeah... Haha.

This is a question i've been trying to answer for ages and i have to say that i think they are both equal- in my view anyway because:

Harry potter holds a lot of memories for me (me and my cousins used to get together to read the books and we always go to the movies in gold glass the first day one of the movies come out and one of my cousin's is the biggest harry potter fan i have ever seen.

BUT:
I seem to be more obsessed with twilight then i was with HP and i love all the romance and drama in twilight - actually i love everything about twilight lol.

So i seriously can't make an honest choice, all i can say is that i love them both as they both have special meanings to me :D
