They aren't rude assumptions, they're opinions. I think the phrase "still got the money" is pretty correct. Also, I didn't even have to search for the flaws that I found. They're glaringly obvious and deeply depressing. (Besides, the entire point of critiquing a book is to find the things that you enjoyed or didn't.) Also, it's not exactly fair for the people who liked Breaking Dawn, not just you, to try to shut down the people who were disappointed. It's not just you, really, I'm just SO tired of hearing people use the argument "It's just a book" or "Stephenie Meyer can write it how she wants, it's her book" as a way to defend how poor this book was in comparison to the others. I mean, who was disappointed in Eclipse, or New Moon? I wasn't. I can see some people being ANNOYED with New Moon, but every loved the end of it. But Breaking Dawn has the biggest number of fans disappointed, and there just isn't a way to get around that fact.
I had no problem with Bella and Edward marrying, also, for the very reason you stated. It was long and drawn out. They'd been talking about getting married forever, and I was ready for that idea. I mean, marrying young ISN'T generally a good idea, but I knew that as the characters, Bella and Edward would make it. It's the baby that's the problem, if you ask me. Stephenie crossed a line. But it's MY line, not yours, so you don't need to tell me I'm wrong. Because I'm not. Opinions cannot be wrong. I was really very happy with how Stephenie approached the marriage - mainly because I agreed with Edward's side. (The whole "you'll become one of the eternal damned but you won't say 'I do?' Whut?" thing.) It was just the baby, and the whole situation comes down to Bella Gets Married and Has Babies. That's become the entire thing of the series. If Bella had been all about the babies in the earlier books, I would not have read them. You know why? Because having kids early generally screws people up, because kids are EXPENSIVE. Especially babies. I mean, can you name one female, important character (who remembers their human life and wants - not Alice) who DOES NOT want kids? Seriously. Esme tried to commit suicide because hers died. Rosalie wanted babies likE ZOMG. And then LEAH, out of NO WHERE, is like *Sob* I can't have babies!!! And of course, Bella's already popping one out at this point. Stephenie is putting every female character into the same personality column - the column of the I WANT BABIES AND MEN column. All Bella ever needs to be happy is a man and a baby. (Really. Even in New Moon and Eclipse she's like that. She defines herself by the man she's with - "Wolf girl" and "Vampire girl". Wayta Go Girl Power. I'm not even a feminist.) I'm not saying wanting babies and men is a bad thing, exactly. Lord knows I want men. (Not babies though. They cry and scream too much.) But it's a PROBLEM when books aimed at young girls are basically filled to the brim of the concept that, if you get married young and have children, everything will be okay. That is my problem. I mean, Stephenie isn't literally printing the words "get married and pregnant" but her STORY is saying that that's a good thing. Her STORY says that all Bella needs to be happy is her child and her husband. Bella has, literally, nothing that is hers that defines her. She says it herself in Breaking Dawn, that she had no talents and wasn't good at anything, and that now she finally has things that define her - wife, mother. What kind of life is that? Excuse me, but I like to think that I'm more then just somebody's woman. I think BELLA, as a functioning organism capable of free will and free thought, human or vampire, should want to be more then just "Edward's Wife" or "Renesmee's Mother". That's the real issue. I mean, it wouldn't be such a big deal if there was like, ANY character who wasn't obsessed with having babies. Like, Alice isn't okay, but she ALSO doesn't remember if she wanted babies when she was alive. (She probably didn't think about it, being all asylum and all that.) And all the OTHER female characters aren't important enough for it to be mentioned. (Jessica, Lauren, Renee, Angela...) I was honestly counting on Leah to be the one girl in the entire series who wasn't wrapped up in HAVING KIDS.
In summary, there is more to life then being a wife or a mother, and Stephenie doesn't mention that EVER.
AS A STAND ALONE NOVEL Breaking Dawn wasn't too bad. It was interesting and it kept my attention until the very end, and there were parts (the birth, the Volturi thing) that kept me on the edge of my seat and DYING to know what happened next. It was exciting.
AS A CONTINUATION Breaking Dawn was terrible. The characters weren't being themselves, the plotline was practically never-ending, and the idea for it was absolutely horrific.
And the issue with Renee is that her character was fixed as an Anti-Early-Marriage person. But her only child is getting married at eighteen and she's suddenly okay with it? Um. No. That's ridiculous. The Renee we all knew from the first three probably would not have tried to stop Bella, but she wouldn't be super happy about it. She'd be at the very LEAST annoyed.
Team Edward! - Everyone loves a man who's good with his hands, and Edward does play piano.
Team Howe! - Jeb said it himself, Jared's a man of miracles.
